 Creating the Perfect Wedding Planner

This wedding planner was devised after I got engaged and wanted a truly lovely wedding planner to start my wedding planning in, but was put off by all the planners out there which told me what to do!

As a creative person, I didn’t feel like I needed a pre-printed checklist, or worksheets to fill out, I just wanted a truly beautiful and relatively organised place to be creative and dream, as well as store my scribbles from venue tours, catering quotes, appointments, and more. In the end, I knew if I wanted what I dreamt of, I’d have to make it myself - so I set out to design the kind of wedding planning book I was after.

First: the cover. In true ADS style, I went for a simple and chic pattern of beautiful florals, inspired by the elegant beauty of late-summer blooms - Cosmos. The design was painted, as always, in Gouache paint, before being scanned and manoeuvred into a beautiful pattern of winding stems. As always, it had to be finished with a fleck of gold foil, so the “Wedding Planner” lettering is finished in lovely gold foil.

How to Use It

Inside, this pretty planner means business! With 240 pages (plus 9 dividers!) You are not going to run out of space for your mood boards, table plans and more. Design-wise, I took a hands-off approach - with only a few helpfully designed budget spreads (several for your wedding, plus more for pre-and-post wedding day occasions such as stag and hen do’s, tea ceremonies, mehndi parties and more); A guest checklist, and a Fill-it-yourself Contents page to help you locate the most important pages later on.

Otherwise, each section is split up into lined pages, blank pages and a few blank to-do list pages, so you are free to sketch, scrapbook, scribble, note and list to your heart’s desire.

Finally, in the spirit of doing things your own way, I have tried really hard to make this planner as inclusive as possible - with no presumption that every wedding has a bride and groom, or that every wedding consists of the traditional western wedding celebrations - so that all sections are usable to every couple.

The Construction

This lovely, ring-bound wedding planner had to be a handy, portable size (A5!) - room enough to write, but still small enough to slip in a bag or car door pocket. The hardback covers and wire binding mean that it’s still a sturdy space to scribble on when standing and walking - perfect for Venue visits and tastings, or for sudden lightbulb moments on the go. It is printed on lovely thick paper, that holds gel and rollerball ink with no bleed-through to the other side. Naturally, it’s made with FSC Certified card and paper stock, so if you can ever bear to part with it one day down the line, it can be removed from the ring binding and recycled with your cardboard and paper.

What's in Each Section?

Use this space to plan the aesthetic parts of your wedding celebrations - from decor, colour schemes, inspiration and more.

Several pages dedicated to possibly the most crucial part of wedding planning - the budget - with space for each item (eg, “venue”) budget, cost, deposits, plus any notes.

Space to plan guest lists and track invitations, as well as room to scrapbook invite designs or draw out table plans.

stash your must-ask questions for venues and caterers here, take notes from tours and tastings, compile to-do lists and tot-up totals.

Plan your ceremony and celebrations here - with to-do lists and notes for you to plan timings, music, ideas and more.

Organise your wedding party here - from dress or suit fittings to readings and beyond. Anything related to you, your partner and the rest of the wedding party goes here.

or “vendors” - keep track of cake makers, florists, dancers, bands, emcees, announcers - whoever is showing up to make your big day beautiful.

for all the fun outside of the wedding itself - this section has a few additional budgets, perfect for planning rehearsals, stag and hen do’s, separate cultural ceremonies and parties, and not forgetting- honeymoons.

in case there’s anything else I missed! Use this space for other lists and notes that might come up in the planning process - there’s checklist pages, plain lined pages and blank pages.
